Favorite Shared Belief taking Saturday’s G1 Cashcall Futurity (Benoit/AP Photo)
While Saturday’s Grade 1 Cashcall Futurity at Hollywood Park did not carry any points on the road to the 2014 Kentucky Derby, the winner Shared Belief has certainly propelled his name into discussion among early Kentucky Derby favorites.
The son of Candy Ride (ARG) easily took the Grade 1 event by an impressive 5 3/4 lengths. Another son of Candy Ride, Candy Boy, got up for second with Tammarando third and Bond Holder fourth.
Shared Belief was claimed after an impressive 7-length debut win at Golden Gate on October 19. He is currently owned by a partnership of six parties, including Jim Rome’s Jungle Racing, LLC and by current trainer and Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer. He has been ridden by jockey Corey Nakatani in all three of his career starts.
Undefeated through three starts, Shared Belief has now earned $451,200.
Here’s a video feature TVG Network did on the horse before the Cashcall Futurity:
Shared Belief’s connections said the horse would be shipped to Santa Anita Park this week, but they have not determined a next race for the soon-to-be three-year-old colt.
