Team ABRV made our first trip to Monmouth Park today for the 2013 Haskell Invitational Post Position Draw. The field for Sunday’s $1 Million contest is highlighted by Preakness winner Oxbow and Wood Memorial winner Verrazano among others. Here is the full field:
Vyjack was a late entry who was also entered in Saturday’s Grade 2 Jim Dandy at Saratoga, so it was nice to get a boost in the field from 6 to 7, but it’s still a rather short field considering the purse and significance of this historic event.
I got some cool shots of “The Shore’s Greatest Stretch” today, despite the fact that there was no live racing and that it was a pretty gloomy day. But as you can see, there’s a lot of nature surrounding the park and quite a bit of history as well.
We’ve also done some good eating so far. Max’s hot dog stand was our first stop yesterday, which was solid. Then last night we went to an Italian spot called Tuzzio’s where I got a Chicken Parmigianna & Baked Ziti combo which was also really sweet. Later on we checked out Pier Village where we did some promo for the ABRV Tour visit to Monmouth and the Haskell.
The crowd seemed receptive and most were at least familiar with the race and the track. We stopped in a hibachi/sushi place called Sawa, where your boy did a little karaoke and afterward I asked everyone to join us on Sunday for the Haskell. We finished off the night at McLoone’s Pier House, which had a live band and plenty of people who were excited about something, so we made sure to add some horse racing talk into the mix.
We’ll be hitting up Bobby’s Burger Palace tonight before going out for some more promotional stops so stay tuned.
