The first centaur charity event last night was a success. Held at the new Furlongs in Lexington, there were several jocks in the house tending bar, including Edgar Prado, Kent Desourmeaux, Julien Leparoux, Shane Sellers, Robby Albarado, James Graham, and John Court. Our friend Brad Weisbord of Team Valor was there with his wife and from Team ABRV, we had Mr. & Mrs. Los Ponies along with Chip McGauhey and myself.
It was a fun night and I was surprised to hear toward the end we were going to have a charity auction and guess who got to be the auctioneer? Yours truly. We sold several hats, t-shirts, Woodford Reserve Bottles, bourbon-barrel tops, and prints, all autographed by the seven jockeys in attendance. In total we raised an unexpected $2,750 for the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund! Here are some tweets with some good pictures from the night:
I was standing on a chair here – jockeys are short, but not that short…
ON TO KEENELAND’S STAKES RACE OF THE DAY, THE G3 APPALACHAIN:
Chad Brown-trained WHATSDACHANCES will make her debut start of 2013 after placing a strong second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Turf last November. She will be your favorite in this one and rightfully so, but I hate taking the chalk so I will throw in UNBELIEVABLE DREAM who is coming off a March 3 win at a mile on the grass for Barclay Tagg down at Gulfstream Park. With those two on top of my exacta I will also include RUSTY SLIPPER, who ran fourth in the G3 Florida Oaks at two-turf-turns last out and TO MY VALENTINE, who has recorded two solid seconds this year on the bottom.
So my bet is the $2 EXACTA 2,4 with 2,4,7,8 which will cost you $12. Giddy up.
